Meet

Mayo &

Kai

Our founders, Mayo and Kai Sowell are the proud parents of three children - Cannon, Brave, and Liberty Sowell.

Mayo loves meeting new people, and he is currently finishing his Master’s Degree in Global Ministry Design at Southeastern University. He is also becoming a scratch golfer in his free time. Kai is currently loving this season of being a devoted mother and wife all the while serving alongside her husband to lead LIIV Atlanta. Kai enjoys working out, dance fitness, and quality time with family and friends. They love Atlanta, they love serving Atlanta, and they are going to give everything they have so that people can flourish in Atlanta.

Imagine loving your day-to-day life: it’s comfortable, it's consistent and you are content. But, a nagging thought of “there’s more” keeps dragging you out of your comfort zone. For us, it was God saying, it’s time to plant a church. The thought grew until it was evident that it wasn’t just a thought, but a call - a call to come to Atlanta.

We couldn’t get the city of Atlanta off of our minds. This is interesting because there was a time in our lives when we didn’t think we could ever return. The two of us first met in Atlanta when we were spiritually lost and living lifestyles that led us to the lowest points in our lives. So, when God brought us out of that time, we tried to avoid the city at all costs. It was a symbol of our greatest pain. But now, it is the symbol of our greatest purpose. God has completely restored and redeemed what was broken in us, and we feel compelled to bring His powerful, real, life-transforming love to those experiencing similar brokenness in this city.

We are here because we know the impact a great church home can have on someone. We are here because we feel supernaturally drawn to the people of this city. We are here to create a church where everyone belongs and everyone has a part to play. We are here for the married couple starting a family and the single person focused on their career. We are here for the influencer working on their next project and the young person looking for a fresh start.

Our mission at LIIV Atlanta is to see all people flourish, and we are building a church that will grab hold of that mission and carry the love of Jesus to the city throughout the week. We believe church is meant to be a family that gets filled and equipped on Sunday and puts their faith in motion Monday through Saturday. We believe this is God’s hope for our city, and we are so excited to help see it come to fruition.

We couldn’t be happier about being located in Sandy Springs - an area hungry for diversity and thriving with community. At LIIV Atlanta, we offer a safe place for the new believer to explore their faith, and a place for the spiritually mature Christian to grow and make an impact. We offer peace of mind for parents by ensuring their kids are learning about the love of Jesus in a clean, fun, age-appropriate, and safe environment.

Together, we will go on a journey to know God, find freedom, and discover purpose, so that we can make a difference beyond the walls of the church. We believe we can reach every corner of our city to impact families, businesses, the arts and entertainment, education, politics, and media for the glory of God. Our vision is a God dream, and we believe with everything in us that God will meet and far exceed every expectation. We realize that we can’t do this alone. It will take faith and support from individuals like you who are passionate about seeing a major city like Atlanta be transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through this website, we hope to make the vision and mission of LIIV Atlanta clear so that you can dream with us, pray for us, support us, and visit us. We believe everyone deserves to LIIV.
